FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your credentials?

Reverend Byrne is a non-denominational minister, ordained by both the Universal Life Church and the Church
of Spiritual Humanism.  She is authorized to perform wedding ceremonies in Texas and all other states in the
U.S. that recognize ordained clergy as officiants.

Where are you located and what areas do you serve?

Reverend Byrne calls Comal County, Texas home and provides professional officiant services to individuals in
both Comal and Bexar County, Texas.  Services are also available to individuals in surrounding counties;
however, a travel fee of $0.29 per mile, round-trip, will apply.

Do we need a license to be married?

Yes.  The State of Texas requires all couples desiring to legally marry to obtain a "Marriage License" from the
County Clerk's Office located within the county in which you will be married.  Unless you qualify for an official
exemption, your "Marriage License" must be obtained at least 72 hours prior to your wedding and is valid for 30
days.

Are we limited in the type of wedding ceremony or other service we may choose from?

Absolutely not!  The job of the officiant is to guide and facilitate--not to dictate!  Reverend Byrne is quite happy to
provide you with a "ready made" ceremony, if that is your wish.  However, she will also work with you to put
together a ceremony that is uniquely yours, reflects your individual values and beliefs, celebrates your traditions,
and incorporates any elements (civil, religious, spiritual, other) that you feel appropriate and necessary to your
special day.  Together we can customize your ceremony to include personal vows/wording, scripture, poetry,
rituals, candles, etc.

Will you officiate at pagan weddings/unions or other ceremonies?

We are all children of the same universe.  Rev. Byrne firmly supports your right to celebrate your beliefs in the
manner of your choosing and will gladly officiate at pagan weddings/unions and willingly performs baby-naming
ceremonies and house-blessings.  Other ceremonies/services in this tradition generally cover areas beyond
her expertise; however, if you wish a minister's assistance in celebrating, she will attempt to accommodate you.

Will you perform weddings or other services on holidays?

Yes.  However, an additional holiday scheduling fee of $75 will apply.  Days subject to this fee are as follows:
New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Good Friday, Easter Day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, Memorial
Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Do you require a rehearsal?

Generally, no.  However, weddings can be very stressful.  Rehearsals can reduce the amount of stress felt by
the couple and all other members of the wedding party.  Reverend Byrne highly recommends wedding
rehearsals and is willing to participate in the rehearsal if the couple desires this; however, rehearsal (with the
minister) is not required.

Do you perform same-sex marriages?

Unfortunately, the State of Texas does not give legal status to same-sex marriages.  Therefore, Reverend Byrne
is prevented from offering the sacrament of marriage to such couples.  However, she fully supports these
unions and is happy to assist you in celebrating your commitment in ritual before your friends and family.

Do you perform wedding or commitment ceremonies for persons under the age of 18?

Forming a union together creates a covenant, a contract between two individuals.  It is a sacred institution with
intense spiritual, emotional, physical, and financial responsibilities.  It requires a deep understanding of
personalities, beliefs and values; and it requires long-term commitment.  It is not an arrangement that should
be entered into lightly.  Therefore, though the State of Texas does permit legal marriages of persons under the
age of 18 (with parental consent) and will issue a legal "Marriage License" to such persons, Reverend Byrne
will not officiate at such proceedings unless the parties involved provide proof of either pre-marital counseling
(pastoral or other) or completed marriage preparation classes.
